THE board of Cowdenbeath Football Club said they are “delighted” to announce the appointment of Neil Fentie as investment director.

Neil works in the oil and gas industry as managing director of Singapore-based company Subsea Pressure Controls Ltd and he will have an immediate impact at Central Park.

Neil, an Aberdonian, will have a remit to attract investment and has also personally invested with this funding enabling the club to pursue the replacement and upgrade of the Central Park floodlights to the required 500 lux - something the club has not been able to progress for some years due to the prohibitive costs involved.

The football authorities have been concerned about the quality of the floodlighting for some time but work will continue in the early part of November with the new lighting being in place for the big derby with Dunfermline Athletic on 27th November.

Neil’s appointment is another piece of the jigsaw in a three-year plan that chairman Donald Findlay ultimately hopes will see Cowdenbeath FC restored to the heart of the local community, relocated to a purpose-built stadium in the town and established in the First Division.

“I’m delighted to welcome Neil onto the Board,” said Donald.

“I have known Neil personally for many years and he brings a wealth of experience in the business world and a vast network of contacts. In addition, Neil’s significant personal investment will allow us, along with funding raised by the supporters, to replace the existing floodlights in order to meet the required criteria.

“Neil shares the long-term vision we all have for the club and will play a vital role in our ambitions to see a successful and sustainable Cowdenbeath Football Club thriving for many decades to come.”

He added, “I must stress, however, we are only at the start of the road and there is much work still to be done.

“We have managed to stabilise the club over the last six months and I would like to personally thank all those who have given their time and money to allow this to happen. The club, though, is not out of the woods by some distance.

"We need more volunteers, increased revenues, additional people through the gates on match day and a new facility to call home.

“A brighter and long-term future can only be achieved by the commitment and hard work of the many, not the few.

“The supporters and local community are key players and, individually and collectively, we are all going to have to rise to the challenge. The future of the club is in all of our hands.”
