A LOCHGELLY man died suddenly from a heart-attack while visiting the family of his bride-to-be in the Philippines for the first time.

Billy Duguid (45) collapsed in the hotel room he was sharing with fiancée Tita on the island of Cagayan de Oro.

Tributes have been made by shocked friends and family of the popular dad-of-two who had no history of illness.

Parents Chic and Anne, of Henderson Street, flew out two days after his death on 2nd July with Billy's sister Angela for the funeral service.

Anne said, "He had got up during the night to get a drink of water and was sick. He told Tita he was having a heart attack.

"She thought he was kidding her on but he told her again.

"She then ran down to phone for an ambulance but it was taking ages so she called a taxi."

Medics pronounced he was dead on arrival at the hospital.

She continued, "She wanted Billy to meet her family so she surprised him with this hoilday. He was really looking forward to it.

"He was a gentleman. I've never heard anybody say a bad word against him.

"He was very well liked and there has been lots of Facebook messages, even from as far as America."

Billy had been in a relationship with Edinburgh nursing assistant Tita for two years.

He worked in the construction industry and had served in Iraq with the Queen's Own Highlanders where he was known as a top marksman.

While his body was on display Tita's family held a vigil by the coffin which was coloured blue for the Rangers fan.

The family scattered his ashes at the Heritage near Dunkeld, one of Billy's favourite areas, where he like to fish and walk Moley his springer spaniel.

On Facebook, one friend wrote, "Billy, you will always be remembered for that rye smile. You were a good man. Tita, now is the time when you need your friends and family - stay close to them."

Another said, "Billy, rest in peace brother. I will miss you and keep you in my prayers

Dad Chic said, "We are grateful to the Gamale family for their support and the help and the attention they gave to Billy during the funeral."
