A MAN who played a huge part in the reformation of Ballingry Golf Club, and recording the heritage of the Benarty area, has died.
Jim Mackie was a keen golfer all his days and no mean player but he also had a real love of the Benarty area and enjoyed looking back on how the Ballingry-Lochore district developed.
Ballingry Golf Club secretary, Terry Ironside told the Times, "Jim played massive role in reforming Ballingry Golf Club.
"For nearly thirty years the club was homeless but there was still a burning desire from many people in the area to resurrect the club. At a public meeting in 1971 a decision was taken to reform the club, with a view to obtaining land to construct a new home for it, then The Meadows Course arrived
"He served the club in many positions and was club secretary when the club re-opened in April 1981. He also switched to roles as treasurer and match-secretary".
He also served the Fife Golfing Association. He was elected to the association in October 1986 and fulfilled duties as seniors convener and then boys convener from 1989 to 1994 when he was elected as vice-president.
He was elected president of the association in November 1996 and served for two years in this position.
He remained on the Executive Council, including two years as Immediate Past President until his retiral in December 2002.
Following his retiral from the Association he maintained a keen interest in Fife affairs and was a regular spectator at Kingdom events. Jim was also very keen football fan seen regularly watching local junior clubs Lochore Welfare and Ballingry Rovers
He was also a very enthusiastic local historian, always looking for old pictures and information which he collated. Added Terry, "Jim will be sadly missed by family and friends and the Benarty community at large".
