A PENSIONER was confronted by a robber in a Cowdenbeath street on Friday.

Fife Constabulary are investigating the incident involving a 70-year-old female on Church Street, Cowdenbeath, at 4.30pm on Friday.

The elderly female was walking home, alone, when her handbag was forcibly pulled from her grasp and she was pushed to the ground.

The culprit thereafter made off after being chased by a member of the public and was later seen on the High Street in possession of the victim's bag. Unfortunately he has yet to be traced.

The male suspect is described as 5'8" to 5'10" tall, of medium build and around 30 years of age. He was wearing white casual trainers, light denim jeans and a dark waist length jacket, which may have been made of a nylon material with a sheen.

The male is described by witnesses as being unshaven and wearing a dark tight-fitting beanie style hat with a light grey band near the bottom.

The victim's bag was described as being a black or dark navy blue shoulder bag with long straps and a fold over flap with a closing stud.

Cowdenbeath Area Inspector Andrew Sneddon commented, "This is a despicable crime where an unscrupulous individual has targeted a vulnerable member of our community.

"The lady has been very brave in recounting her experience and fortunately she is uninjured. She has been supported by her family and our officers.

"We are appealing for anyone who had been in or around the area of Church, Bridge or the High Street Cowdenbeath, about 4.30pm on Friday 3rd February and may have seen this male running from the scene to contact the police.

"This is always a particularly busy time of the day for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

"I cannot stress enough the importance of passing

on any information, however apparently trivial,

as this may have a substantial impact on the investigation.

"There is a team of officers dedicated to this enquiry and I thank the members of the Cowdenbeath community who have already made contact with the police providing valuable information".

He concluded, "I would again ask that if you have any information relating to this particularly disturbing crime to contact Fife Constabulary on 0845 600 57
