Kelty Hearts celebrate taking the lead against Linlithgow.

KELTY Hearts produced a superb performance to take all three East Super League points on Saturday despite being reduced to ten men against Linlithgow Rose.

Elsewhere there were good East of Scotland Cup wins for Hill of Beath Hawthorn and Dundonald Bluebell and a great start for Dave Baikie's managerial career at Ballingry Rovers.

Kelty Hearts 2, Linlithgow Rose 1.

HEARTS had to bounce back from seeing Stefan Winiarski dismissed inside the first 20 minutes of this Central Park clash.

The veteran collected two yellow cards and was sent packing but the gallant ten were able to contain Linlithgow in the opening 45 minutes.

Indeed, things could have been even better when Robbie Henderson got clear of the Linlithgow cover but just could not complete the job.

However, Rose started the second period well and grabbed the lead in 50 minutes but within quarter of an hour the home side were level.

Bryan Duell fed Neil McCabe and he ran through to beat the 'keeper and tie things up at 1-1.

Then ten minutes later Conrad Courts' corner had Linlithgow in trouble and Roger Duffin appeared to head past the 'keeper.

Rose lost their discipline as time went on and as the game entered time added on they had two men dismissed to complete a black day for them.

Home boss Keith Burgess was delighted with the performance against the odds, "Yet again we had to play short handed but it was a really first class team effort.

"We defended superbly when we had to and created several very good chances to record a good double over Rose."

Ballingry Rovers 3, Newtongrange Star 2.

THREE very welcome East Premier League points for Rovers and a good start for Dave Baikie in the managerial chair at Ore Park.

Star started the game well and took an early lead but Ballingry worked hard and Jamie Gilfillan made the interval score 1-1 with a well placed shot.

Rovers played some spirited stuff in the second-half and a fine piece of play by Daniel Hall saw them take the lead.

The on loan Cowdenbeath youngster beat several desparing tackles before firing into the net.

Star were soon level from a free-kick on the edge of the Ballingry box but Rovers kept up their work ethic and Gilfillan fired home the winner to improve Ballingry's mid table position.

Mr Baikie was a happy man at time-up, "It was very pleasing to get off the mark with this win over a good side.

"It gives us something to build on and hopefully we can continue to improve our league position in the weeks ahead."

Hill of Beath Hawthorn 6, Blairgowrie 0.

BLAIR were simply no match for Hill of Beath in this East of Scotland Cup match at Keir's Park.

Indeed, the game was over as a contest at the break as Haws romped into a four goal lead.

The first period saw Haws head towards the Blairgowrie goal and it took some good stops by the visiting 'keeper to avoid a complete rout.

However, by the break Craig Smart and Stephen Bathgate had hit doubles and Blair were left to contemplate a damage limitation exercise in the second-half.

They defended a bit more solidly after the interval but still Haws carried a constant threat and a Barry Smith header and an Ian Hepburn shot brought the final tally to six.

Dundonald Bluebell 1, West Calder United 1 (Bluebell won 5-4 on penalties).

IT took a penalty shoot-out to separate the sides in this East of Scotland Cup tie at Moorside.

The first-half saw both sides have chances but neither 'keeper was really tested.

West Calder came out for the second-half in determined fashion and they grabbed the lead in the 50th minute.

Bluebell were soon back in the picture but some good goalkeeping kept them out until the 75th minute when Stewart Cargill squared the tie.

The home side had chances to win the match after this but failed to score so it was on to penalties.

Steven Forbes, Scott Bissett and Murray Carstairs all counted for Bluebell before Jamie Reynolds saved West Calder's fourth spot-kick.

Cargill put Bluebell ahead and Derek Wallace completed a nap hand of penalties to put Bluebell through to an attractive clash with Camelon in the enxt round.

Lochgelly Albert 1, Jeanfield Swifts 4.

ALBERT had enough chances to have won this Central League clash at Gardiner's Park.

Indeed, in the early stages Darren Seath twice went close and then Stevie Brown and John McDiarmid were only inches away from scoring.

However, Swifts did not panic and grabbed the lead in 34 minutes when a free-kick hit Gavin Ross and flew into the Albert net.

A second own goal in 54 minutes, this time Rory McQueen screwing the ball into his own net, put Jeanfield in charge but Ryan McLean sent Seath in and he fired high into the net to give Albert hope.

However, the Perthsire promotion hopefuls got a third in 75 minutes following the home defence failing to deal with a cross and then eight minutes from time a corner was converted from close in to give Swifts the points.

Lochore Welfare 3, Thornton Hibs 4.

LOCHORE Welfare found themselves two down inside 11 minutes in this Central League fixture.

The home defence was caught out in the early moments and Hibs were happy to get their noses in front.

But Lochore started to improve and an own goal pulled them back into the game. When Lee Reid fired in a free-kick it meant that the home side went into half-time level.

Hibs opened the second period well and took the lead again with their third headed goal in 65 minutes but Lochore went up the park and Alan McDonough squared things.

However, in the closing stages Thornton grabbed the winner to leave the hosts deflated.
